We are an online resource centre for Carers who would like to take part in reminiscence sessions with the elderly. Over the past few years one of our researchers has been a practitioner in the field of elderly care and has created a series of themed booklets to use in residential care homes, day centre’s or indeed in the elderly person’s own home on a one to one basis.
We are endeavouring to catalogue and upload to the web site a great variety of social history photographs which will be simple to download and use in your reminiscence sessions. There will be a small fee for downloading of photographs
Reminiscence is now widely recognized as a valuable activity in caring for the elderly and promotes communication and social interaction as well as many other benefits. This will be an ongoing project and your views and ideas would be appreciated to enable us to offer quality photographs/triggers relevant for reminiscence sessions.
At the present time we are offering themed ‘Talkabout’ booklets for sale which include social history photos and questions on a range of relevant, every day reminiscence themes such as:
- Household Memories
- Childhood Memories
- The Home Front WWII
- Transport Memories
- A Life on the Farm
- Women’s World
- Men’s World
- Hobbies
- 1950’s & 1960’s
- 1970’s
These booklets are already being used in a dementia unit, by adult education tutor’s and in care homes. They contain photos of memorabilia and social history photographs together with a list of prompts/questions to aid in the reminiscence session.
Life Story - We would also like to encourage anyone who would like to share their Life Story with us to contact us by email.
